RA x D12: Subway Policing and the Criminalization of Poverty

  • Weeksville Heritage Center 158 Buffalo Avenue Brooklyn, NY, 11213 United States (map)

As the MTA’s 2026 fare hike takes effect, New Yorkers are being asked to pay more for a transit system that is increasingly shaped by policing rather than public service.

Join us at the Weeksville Heritage Center, along with organizers from the December 12th Movement, to learn about the expanding role of police in public transportation — how fare enforcement, surveillance, and criminalization intersect with rising fares and a deepening affordability crisis.

Together, we’ll discuss who is bearing the cost of these choices, what real safety on buses and subways should look like, and how we can organize for a transit system that is affordable, accessible, and accountable to the people who depend on it every day.

The program will begin at 6pm, followed by an open discussion until 9pm. Food and drink will be provided.
