Mayor Mamdani and Speaker Menin announced a historic expansion of Fair Fares, increasing eligibility to 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.

This victory belongs to the organizers, advocates, coalition partners, and working-class New Yorkers who fought tirelessly to make affordable transit a priority in this year’s budget. Thanks to their dedication, 1.3 million New Yorkers will now have access to affordable public transportation.

While our campaign called for expanding Fair Fares to 300% of the Federal Poverty Level and for the creation of both free and discounted fare options, we are nonetheless proud to celebrate this important milestone and the progress we’ve achieved together.
