Add your voice to the growing chorus of riders demanding fully-funded, free buses for New Yorkers and a permanent end to hostile fare enforcement!

In October 2026, an EAGLE team (MTA “Evasion and Graffiti Lawlessness Eradication” teams enforcing fare payment on buses) assaulted Kyle Taylor, a Brooklyn school dean, as he got off a bus in Brownsville. After Taylor’s assault, numerous other videos of abusive tactics surfaced, forcing the MTA to suspend fare enforcement pending an investigation.

It’s past time to put an end to EAGLE teams forever.

The MTA spends upwards of $30 million each year on uniformed bus fare enforcement. But decades of fare collection has done little to improve our service. Over a million people rely on NYC’s bus service, including hospital workers, homecare workers, students, and teachers like Kyle Taylor. It’s time we stop wasting their hard earned money.

More than two out of every three dollars that the MTA spends on bus operations comes from taxes or tolls – not fares. Today, fares bring in just one-sixth of what it costs the MTA to run New York’s buses. That one-sixth is important and we believe there are better ways to secure it instead of shaking down, harassing, and harming riders.

With the right investments in the MTA, buses can be free and riders can be free of the awful consequences of fare enforcement. If we take advantage of the state’s $8 billion budget surplus, tax the rich, and more – we can make the bus free AND improve service for New York bus riders.

No EAGLE teams needed.
