Fundraising Associate (Full Time)

We’re hiring a Fundraising Associate to help expand and engage our donor base. The Associate will help execute key elements of our annual fundraising plan including gift processing and acknowledgement, digital and mailed appeals, cultivation activities, merchandise sales, and an annual gala. We’re looking for a creative, collaborative, accountable project manager who can wrap their arms around logistics, tasks, and details while authentically connecting with members of our community of transit supporters. The Associate will report to and work closely with the Director of Fundraising and Operations.

Part-Time Canvassers

We’re hiring a team of Part-Time Canvassers to work within the organizing team from June to August 31, 2024 to mobilize a grassroots base of Brooklyn bus riders in support of building better buses on Flatbush Avenue. Flatbush Avenue is a critical transit corridor in Brooklyn, carrying thousands of bus riders every day. And yet buses are slow and unreliable – it’s time to fix Flatbush Avenue to make it more efficient and safer for bus riders, pedestrians, cyclists and drivers alike. Part-Time Canvassers will work directly in the Flatbush neighborhood to engage bus riders about the challenges they face and help us recruit new leaders. 

As a Part-Time Canvasser, you will engage community members in Brooklyn. Reporting to a senior organizer, you’ll will be responsible for:

  • Working as part of a high-impact canvassing and community outreach team to recruit transit riders to join Riders Alliance

  • Phone banking and text banking public transit riders to speak about their most pressing transit issues

  • Fielding a bus rider survey at bus stops and on the bus to better understand rider needs

  • Attending meetings with community stakeholders, including elected officials, community boards, business leaders, and advocates

  • Identifying and building relationships with potential leaders

  • Carefully tracking data on member conversations and outreach

  • Brainstorming with the team on creative tactics to recruit transit riders

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent people and communication skills

  • Interest in learning about social justice, transportation policy, community organizing practices, and the nonprofit sector

  • Ability to work effectively with people of different cultures and backgrounds

  • Self-motivated and able to work efficiently to complete tasks

  • Willingness to travel to neighborhoods in all boroughs of New York City

  • Ability to attend evening and weekend canvassing shifts and meetings 

  • Familiarity with communities in Brooklyn or Queens and/or lived experience as a Brooklyn or Queens transit rider

Job Features

  • Part-time schedule of approximately 10-15 hours per week from June to August, 2024

  • Pay is $20 hourly, canvassers will receive MetroCards to cover their work travel
